Biblical Games for Kids - Board, Card, and Video Games

Biblical Games for Kids - Board, Card, and Video Games

These games are based directly on the Bible. If you're looking for a broader range of Christian games, check out my other pages.

Board and Card Games

All Aboard the Ark (Excellent)
I like this memory matching game because it's cooperative between two players as you help each other remember where the animals are and because there's a sense of urgency to it. If you flip over 10 Flood cards before you find all the animal matches, you lose.

Purchase

The Apostles: Spread the Gospel Board Game (Fair)
This is a Chutes and Ladders type of game that uses events from the New Testament as the different spaces on the board. While I appreciate the idea, the simple text referencing the event isn't very appealing to children.

Purchase

Bible Old Man (Excellent)
This is a version of the game Old Maid but with Bible characters, so your kids will become more familiar with people of the Bible. Use the game as a review or teaching opportunity.

Purchase

Bible Rummy (Excellent)
Rummy itself is a great game, and it gets even better when you can illustrate it with Bible stories. Use the game to reinforce your children's learning. It's good for introducing them to new stories too.

Purchase

Bible Snap! (Excellent)
This is another classic card game-turned Bible game. Players take turns laying down cards in front of them and calling out when they see a match in front of two players or between a player and the "pot." It's a fun game that goes quickly and has the added benefit of reinforcing Bible stories.

Purchase

Blink Bible Edition (Good)
Match the colors, shapes, or numbers as fast as possible to play all your cards and be the first one out. Good for kids and small children's ministries.

Purchase

Bingo
Bingo is a classic game. Here are some Christian sets you can currently purchase, with a brief description of each one.

I love the illustrations of these cards. There's a wide variety of images and can be very useful for leading a discussion while you play.

Bible Bingo
Purchase

Uses a variety of Bible characters and Christian symbols!

Chapter & Verse (Fair)
This is a great idea: exploring, solving puzzling, figuring out a puzzle. Unfortunately, the gameplay gets a little repetitive and boring.

Purchase

The Great Adventure Bible Game Card Set (Excellent)
This beautifully illustrated set of cards can be used to play anything from Go Fish! to Rummy to Doubt It to Spoons.

Purchase

Go Fish!
Instead of rating these Christian editions of the classic game, I'll simply include a note on what makes each one different. You can't really change Go Fish! that much.

Bible Go Fish
Purchase

Uses "Thank you, God..." phrases and cute cartoon pictures.

Jonah, Go Fish!
David C. Cook 459195 Gm Jonah Go Fish Jumbo Card Game
Purchase

Uses scenes from the story of the prophet Jonah!

Days of Daniel  (Good)
This is a simple game to play with the kids. Collect the pieces of the picture as you review the events of Daniel's life and his prophecies.

Purchase

Matching Games
Always a classic, these matching games don't vary much except in their art styles.

David and Goliath Matching Game
Purchase

Uses scenes from the story of David and Goliath!

The Good Shepherd Matching Game
Purchase

Uses cute sheep faces and different sayings.

Our Daily Bread Matching Game
Purchase

Uses Bible characters with a charming art style!

Noah's Animal Rescue  (Good)
This is a nice cooperative game for kids and families. The object is to get all the animals on the ark. The strategy is to get them there the fastest before the rain comes.

Purchase

Noah's Ark: Don't Rock the Boat!  (Excellent)
This is a very educational and thrilling game for children. They'll learn about the animals, about decision-making, and about estimating weights as they place differently weighted animal figurines on the ark, trying to keep it in balance longer than their opponent can. Each animal has a fact card that comes with it.

Purchase

Operation: Noah's Ark Edition  (Excellent)
There's not a lot of learning here, but practicing the coordination needed and feeling the excitement of Operation is always fun, and having the Biblical theme will at least help kids remember the story.

Purchase

Trivia Games
There isn't a lot to these games, just questions and answers to see who can get the most points, but they're effective for filling time after a lesson, spending time with your children, and learning the Bible in an easy, fun format. Here are some of the games we've come across in this category.

The Action Bible Guess-It Game
The Action Bible Guess-It Game

If you enjoy 20 Questions, you'll like this game. The clues that you give get easier so that the game is suited for any level of Bible knowledge. The cards and clues range from Biblical people to places to objects.

Bible Times Quiz
Purchase

Read three clues about a person, place, object. Some of the clues are fairly difficult, but students will learn and remember the correct answers.

Bible Trivia
Purchase

Each card has an easy side and a hard side.

Children's Bible Trivia
Purchase

This is the most complete trivia game you'll find, with around 1,000 questions broken up into seven categories. Once you get a question correct in all seven categories, you win.

Scripture Memory Game
Purchase

Fill in the missing words of the verses! Play cooperatively, on teams, or one-on-one.

VeggieTales: Jonah - The Overboard Adventure Game  (Good)
Walk Jonah through the steps of his story as based on the VeggieTales movie version.

Video Games

Armor of God (Good)
Play for free!

Platform: Browser
Publisher: Mark Gossage, 2018

Here's a short Christian platformer game you can play right in your browser. Your goal is to collect the Armor of God while avoiding the spikes, making jumps across pits, and landing on moving platforms. It's a fun game that doesn't take too long and will give you a good review of the applicable passage.

The Bible Game (Excellent)
Purchase

Platforms: Game Boy Advance, PS2, Xbox
Publisher: Crave Entertainment, 2005

This is a fun one to play with your friends. You're competing against up to 3 other players or the computer on a game show and answering trivia questions or playing mini-games for points. There's a lot of variety in the content and the mini-games themselves. The graphics have held up well for a PS2-era game. I'd definitely recommend it as a group game.

+ + +

Bible Hangman (Good)
Platform: Android
Publisher: DRY9 Games, 2015

This is a simple game that's fun to play. I was always curious to see what word or phrase the next puzzle would be. And, of course, once you know what it's spelling, you're reminded of the book, person, event, etc. The app runs perfectly with minimal ads, so if you're a fan of Hangman, give it a try!

Bible Memory Game (Fair)
Play for free!
Platform: Android
Publisher: i-stih, 2016

This matching game has a couple of things going for it. First, it tells an abbreviated version of the Biblical story before each set of puzzles. Second, the original artwork is very appealing to a young audience. I also appreciate the challenge of the timer. One detraction from the game is that the pictures aren't labeled, so it's easy to tell what who some of the people being depicted are, but you're left to guess who the others are. It would be better if so many stories weren't mixed in to one puzzle. Adam, for instance, could be in a puzzle with Noah.

+ + +

Bible Memory Game Children (Fair)
Play for free!

Platform: Android
Publisher: RDB Mobile, 2015

This matching game works well enough, but I wouldn't recommend it for children. Some of the terminology isn't very kid-friendly. What child uses the words fidelity or longsuffering? The number of cards on the board also makes it difficult for small ones. Finally, the art on the cards consists of a few different styles, detracting from the overall look of the game.

Charlie the Church Mouse 3D Adventures (Excellent)

Purchase

Platforms: PC
Publisher: Left Behind Games, 2015

This massively underrated game combines both 3D platforming and educational mini-games, all while telling 9 Bible stories.

Charlie Church Mouse
Preschool, Kindergarten, and Early Elementary (Excellent)
(Also known as Charlie Church Mouse Bible Adventures)
Platforms: PC
Publisher: Inspired Media, Left Behind Games, 2005

These games came out in a number of editions. They were even briefly called Charlie Church Mouse Bible Adventures 1, 2, and 3. No matter which edition you buy, the games are essentially the same within their different volumes.

Each of these games tells 6 Bible stories along with offering educational mini-games. The graphics are still up to par with today's standards, and the games are fun and engaging for young kids. Because they include different Bible stories and activities within such a close age range, it would definitely be worth buying all three and letting your kids explore each one.

Purchase
Preschool Bible stories: Creation, Noah’s Ark, Jonah, 3 Wisemen, Parable of the Lost Coin, Fishes and Loaves

Purchase
Kindergarten Bible stories: Elisha & the Jars of Oil, Nehemiah Rebuilds the Wall, The Story of Queen Esther, The Birth of a Savior, The Prodigal Son, Zaccheus & the Big Tree

Purchase
Early Elementary Bible stories: Walls of Jericho, Ruth, David & Goliath, Daniel, Pearl of Great Price, Paul’s Journey to Rome.

Children's Bible Puzzles for Kids & Toddlers (Excellent)
Play for free!

Platform: Android
Publisher: NutBolt Games, 2018

I'm very impressed with this game. Younger kids can enjoy a couple of different puzzle types and "spot the difference" game while older kids can play the variety of trivia games. The music is also very upbeat and catchy. The one problem I have with the app is that there a lot of ads that pop up when switching from screen to screen.

+ + +

Daily Bible Word Search (Excellent)
Play for free on FacebookAndroid, or iOS!
Platform: Brower (Facebook), Android, iOS
Publisher: Planet 316, 2018

Here's another daily game by Planet 316. While it's still a pretty simple game, I like this one a little more because it's more than a game. After you solve the short puzzle for the day, it provides you with a brief devotional to read.

+ + +

Granny's Bible Dojo (Excellent)
Purchase
Platform: iOS
Publisher: InsideOut Studies, 2014

This is a great game for learning the books of the Bible. Granny will present the books in a jumbled order, and you have to crack the boards in order. When you crack one, another will appear behind it. You'll also hear Granny's instructions and encouragement, so that adds some humor to the game.

+ + +

Jonah: A VeggieTales Game  (Good)
Purchase
 Platform: PC
Publisher: Big Idea, 2002

The graphics are great, the voice acting is on par with the cartoon, and following the storyline of the movie, you'll learn the (VeggieTales version) story of Jonah. The game is composed of mini-games, though, which might be a nice touch of variety for some people but lacks a cohesion of gameplay for me. I don't think many children will mind that, though!

+ + +

A Journey Towards Jesus (Good)
Platforms: Android
Publisher: Kupina.me, 2015

This trivia game gets high marks for including a story. You are accompanying a young man named Eliab to find Jesus so that he can ask Him to heal his sister. The quiz questions are fairly easy, and there are also some word scrambles and other simple puzzles mixed in for variety.

+ + +

King Solomon's Trivia Challenge 1 and 2, Solomon Says: Anything Goes (Good)
Purchase

Purchase
Platform: PC, Mac
Publisher: Cloud 9/Left Behind Games, 2005, 2011, 2012

Play against the computer or against other players in this game show trivia competition. Solomon is your host, and you can set the difficulty to an appropriate level. Solomon Says is the original game, with the King Solomon's Trivia Challenge games being the editions that Left Behind Games published after they purchased Cloud 9.

 + + +

Lightgliders (Excellent)
Purchase a monthly or yearly subscription

Platform: Brower
Publisher: Kingdom Scene, 2017

Lightgliders is much more than a game. It's an all-in-one website with children's devotions, animated and live action videos, and mini-games. The games are either about training your character to be a Lightglider or sending you out on missions to rescue Gliddles, cute little creatures of the world who are lost and harassed by the evil machines. Everything contains a lesson and is based on Scripture.

Kids can spend a lot of time on this site, so it's definitely worth the subscription price for as long as your kids are interested. There's also a companion app you can get for Android or iOS. The app is free, so it can provide a good introduction to Lightgliders if you're not sure if your kids will take advantage of the full site.

+ + +

MightyNoah Adventure Game (Good)
Play for free!

Platforms: Android
Publisher: Doroncreations Inc, 2018

This is a pretty fun reaction game. You swipe the ark left and right to avoid dangers and collect coins, health, and shields. The scenery and obstacles and varied and look great. The music adds to the sense of adventure. When the durability of your ark gets too low, you can either pay coins to restore it and keep going, or answer three trivia questions to keep going. You can also watch an ad, but there is no invasive advertising. I don't think this is a game that will keep your attention for long, but it's fun to try out and see how far you can get floating on the waters of the flood.

+ + +

My Place with Jesus (Poor)
Platforms: Android
Publisher: It Is Written, 2018

This game has appealing graphics, but the wording of the teaching goes high above children's heads. There are other things to do, but the meat of the gameplay consists of filling in missing words in the Bible verses.

+ + +

Noah's Ark (Excellent)
Purchase (this one's pretty difficult to find!)

Platform: NES
Publisher: Konami, 1992

Play as Noah gathering the animals across all seven continents. This is a very loose rendition of the story, though, as Noah changes form with different power-ups and even fights some rather interesting bosses.

+ + +

Noah's Ark: 2 by 2  (Excellent)
Play for free on Kindle!
Platform: Kindle
Publisher: Truth Gaming LLC, 2013

This memory match game presents the story of Noah's Ark with the challenge of a timer to complete the round. You can also use power-ups to help you get a peek at the cards and complete the round faster.

+ + +

The Noah's Ark Game  (Good)
Play for free!

Platform: Android
Publisher: The city of apps, 2016

The theme of the map is Noah's Ark, and the player gathers two of each animal in this memory game, but the ties to Noah's Ark end there. There's no teaching in this game. It's simply level after level of matching animals. And with that, it does quite well. There is a lot of variety in the animals as well as how many cards are on the board, so the challenge does increase the further you go.

+ + +

Noah's Bunny Problem  (Fair)
Play for free on Android or iOS!

Platform: Android, iOS
Publisher: Salvation's Story, 2015

This game is well-done for a simple app, but it favors humor more than content. Your goal is to keep the rabbits from kissing and making more rabbits, while also keeping the existing rabbits from falling off the Ark. As an added bonus, you can dress Noah in different outfits, such as this Santa outfit (which, yes, is problematic for some Christians).

+ + +

Noah's Elephant in the Room (Good)

Play for free on Android or iOS!

Platform: Android, iOS
Publisher: Salvation's Story, 2017

Ride Noah's elephant through the Ark, avoiding Noah's sons, who are trying to ruin his good time. If you want to a boost, you can memorize Bible verses and upgrade your elephant. It's a fun game to play around with, but don't expect it to keep your attention for long. Thankfully, it doesn't have to since it's free to play.

+ + +

Park the Ark  (Good)
Play for free on Kindle!
Platform: Kindle
Publisher: Truth Gaming LLC, 2015

Kids will tilt their device to steer the Ark into the correct sight words. They'll learn their words and the story of Noah's Ark at the same time. The gameplay isn't very exciting or challenging, though, so kids might not stick with it for very long. Fortunately, it's free, so it's worth letting them play with as long as interest lasts.

+ + +

Play the Jesus Bible Trivia Challenge Quiz Game  (Good)
Platform: Android
Publisher: RD Games, 2018

Despite the awkward name, this trivia app is a cut above some of the others. You spin a dial to land on a category for each question. If you don't know an answer or want reinforcement, you can click to see the passage of Scripture referenced in the question. You're also on a time for each question, so that adds to the challenge, and the sound effects and animations make the game more addicting than most trivia games.

 + + +

Play the Bible Ultimate Verses (Fair)
Play for free!
Platform: Android
Publisher: RD Games, 2016

This game isn't very challenging, but it is fun to play for a while. All you have to do is cover each letter of a word with the same color of tile, and you earn points. Powerups allow you to clear words more quickly. I like that you're reading the Bible verse as you play, and you get to test your memory after each level by filling in missing words. It's also fully voice acted, which is a nice touch. The one downside is that you have to give the company your email address or log in with Facebook, which feels a little shady. I can't think of a legitimate reason they need my information to play a free app.

 + + +

Stained Glass (Excellent)
Platform: iOS
Publisher: Lightside Games, 2015

This match 3 game adds beautiful artwork and fully voiced Bible story narrations. I particularly enjoy the paraphrased Bible stories that the characters tell you. They're imaginative and add a fresh perspective to the Biblical text without crossing the line into too much speculation.

+ + +

The Story of Noah's Ark  (Good)
Purchase

Platform: Nintendo DS
Publisher: SouthPeak Games, 2011

Listen to the story of and play a variety of mini and educational games based on Noah's Ark.

+ + +

Superbook Games (GoodReview)

Platform: Brower
Publisher: CBN

21 mini-games based on the Bible and Superbook characters. Read our recommendations for which are the best to play.

+ + +

Super Bible Trivia (Excellent)
Purchase

Platform: PC
Publisher: Planet 316, 2014

There are a lot of Christian trivia games, but this one stands out for its mini-games. Like some of the other trivia games above, this one uses a game show theme that you can play solo or versus other players. The mini-games are fun because they include things like Timeline, Who Am I?, and Name that Book, which I found particularly enjoyable.
