Adventures in Odyssey and the Great Escape (Good)
Purchase

Platforms: PC, Mac
Publisher: Digital Praise, 2005

The gameplay is fairly simple as you play through a series of activities from the perspective of being in a video game. The story is a great illustration of temptation and our need to resist it with God's help.

Adventures in Odyssey and the Sword of the Spirit (Fair)
Purchase

Platforms: PC, Mac
Publisher: Digital Praise, 2008

This game has a decent story and an animated art style that holds up fairly well. It also has a mix of puzzles, roleplaying, and platforming. Unfortunately, the platforming is rather difficult to control, bringing down the overall gameplay experience.

+ + +

Adventures in Odyssey and the Treasure of the Incas (Excellent)
Platforms: PC, Mac
Publisher: Digital Praise, 2005

Get ready for a treasure hunt as you try to solve the mystery of Eugene's missing parents. You play as Eugene, Connie, and Whit in this puzzle game. There are also plenty of animated cutscenes and the great voice acting fans of the series love to help move the story forward.

 + + +

The Aetherlight: Chronicles of the Resistance (Excellent)
Play for free on Android or iOS, or purchase for PC and Mac
Platform: PC, Mac, Android, iOS
Publisher: Scarlet City Studios, 2016

Wow! This is an impressive game, and I certainly hope Scarlet City continues the series. Right now, you can play through the first 3 episodes in which you help the Scarlet Man (Jesus) restore The Great Engineer (God the Father) to the throne of this steampunk kingdom. The graphics are great, the gameplay is great, and there is plenty of allegorical content referencing Biblical stories. This is a must-play game for any Christian gamer.

+ + +

Alpha/Omega: The Christian RPG
This one's my game, so I'll refrain from rating it ;-)
Check out the game page for more info!

Platforms: PC, Mac, Linux, Android
Publisher: BUD Games, 2018

+ + +

aMazing Bible (Excellent)
Purchase
Platform: PC, Mac
Publisher: Digital Praise, 2009

This is a different sort of game that has you moving a red and blue ball simultaneously through different mazes as you walk through the Bible. Each maze is different, and you can do different things to get through them, so you won't get bored easily. It's a fun challenge and a review of major portions of the Bible at the same.

+ + +

Attack of the Sunday School Zombies (Fair)
Purchase

Platforms: PC
Publisher: Sunday Software

There are 8 zombies attending church this morning, and one of them is the pastor! They aren't real zombies, though. They're just all in church with the wrong attitude, and you have to shoot chocolate donuts at them so that you can share some Scripture and advice with them. I love the concept, but the game is very short and is more lesson than gameplay. Still, the insights are valuable, so if you're up for paying the rather high download cost, it's worth a playthrough.

+ + +

Axys Adventures: Truth Seeker (GoodReview)
Purchase

Platform: PC
Publisher: Rebel Planet Creations, 2007

This is one of the best Christian video games in the Action / RPG genre. The graphics leave a little to be desired (it's a few years old), but the story is intriguing, and the gameplay is phenomenal. You're battling monsters with your sword and figuring out puzzles like you would in the best Action RPG games.

+ + +

BibleMan: A Fight for the Faith (Good)
Purchase, if you can find it!

Platform: PC, Mac
Publisher: Covenant Studios, 2005

Based off of the episode of the series, you play as BibleMan and his teammates, defending the city against the Wacky Professor. Is it campy? Yes! That's part of what makes it fun. Also, the cutscenes are from the TV show, which brings back a lot of nostalgia for certain gamers. The only detriment is that gameplay can be a little slow, as you can only defend rather than attack.

+ + +

Bible Adventures (Fair)
Purchase on Amazon or Steam

Platforms: NES, Sega Genesis
Publisher: Wisdom Tree, 1991

This retro platformer can still be a lot of fun as you play through the stories of Noah's Ark, Baby Moses, and David and Goliath. Just don't expect too much of a challenge.

+ + +

Bible Gems (Excellent)
Platform: PC
Publisher: Planet 316, 2014

This is a well-done computer game that walks you through Genesis as you play. You'll hear a summary of the stories, accompanied by original illustrations before each level. And each level is different, adding variety to the game.

+ + +

Bible Grand Slam 2.0 and 3.0 (Fair)

Purchase 2.0 or 3.0 on Amazon

Platform: PC
Publisher: Bible Games Company

Answer trivia questions as you make your way around the bases versus teams of various difficulty.

+ + +

Break-Out the Bible (Excellent)
Purchase from Amazon or the publisher's website

Platform: PC, Mac
Publisher: DivineGames, 2002

Bounce the ball into the pieces to score points and reveal the Bible verse and graphic. There are three difficulty modes that determine the speed of the ball and plenty of levels to provide for extended gameplay.

+ + +

Catechumen (Excellent)
Purchase

Platforms: PC
Publisher: N'Lightning Software, 2000

In this first-person shooter set during the time of Christian persecution under Emperor Marcus Aurelius, you play as a young Christian seeking to rescue your mentor from demon-possessed Roman soldiers. The game is light on story, but it has great gameplay, and the graphics still look pretty good. One plus is that when you defeat a human enemy, they don't die but rather kneel and pray in repentance.

+  + +

Dance Praise and Dance Praise 2 (ExcellentReview)

Purchase

Platforms: PC, Mac
Publisher: Digital Praise, 2005, 2007

This game uses dance pads and popular Christian music tracks. Get your exercise and worship on at the same time! Plus, there are plenty of expansion packs that work with both games.

+ + +

Do You Know Who I Am? (Good)
Purchase

Platforms: PC
Publisher: Bible Games Company

This multiplayer quiz game awards you more points if you can guess the Biblical person with fewer clues.

+ + +

Eternal War: Shadows of Light (ExcellentReview)
Download for free!

Platform: PC
Publisher: Two Guys Software, 2003

This first-person shooter focuses on spiritual warfare and has a great storyline.

+ + +

FIVE: Champions of Canaan (Fair)
Purchase

Platforms: PC, Mac
Publisher: Kingdom Games, 2016

Your mission: infiltrate the arenas to disrupt the sacrifices to Moloch. The gameplay: repetitive. This is mostly a fighting game. The graphics are great, and the ability to upgrade your gear is a plus, but there's not much to the story. If you simply want some quick-paced fun, Champions of Canaan can hit the spot, but there's not enough depth here to play for an extended period.

+ + +

FIVE: Guardians of David (Fair)
Purchase

Platforms: PC, Mac
Publisher: Kingdom Games, 2015

Play as 5 of David's mighty men as you walk through some of the major events in the famous king's life.

+ + +

Flood: The Prequel
I also worked on this game. Check out the game page!
Purchase on Steam or Itch.io!

Platforms: PC, Mac, Linux
Publisher: God Inspired Games, 2019

+ + +

Forgiveness: Chapters 1-3 (Fair)
Purchase

Platforms: PC
Publisher: Breakthrough Gaming, 2006

This is a very retro-style RPG but has all the classic elements of story, turn-based battles, leveling up, and loot. You play as Jimmy and the friends he gathers in this very Chrisitan adventure. The highlight of the game for me was the battle system, which wasn't very challenging, but it does allow you to aim, and if the enemies are lined up right, you can hit two at once. Still, there are too random many battles to enjoy this combat mechanic for very long. The story itself is fairly interesting if a bit tongue-in-cheek.

+ + +

The Great Bible Race (Excellent)
Purchase

Platforms: PC, Mac
Publisher: Great Bible Race, 2014

This quiz game includes difficulty levels, multiplayer, and various game modes to let you answer a variety of questions or hone in on specific topics. In Race Mode, there's the added challenge of the timer. Besides the classic Church Edition, you can also purchase the African American edition, which adds a little color to the game's artwork.

+ + +

Guitar Praise (Excellent)
Purchase

Platforms: PC, Mac
Publisher: Digital Praise, 2008

Play along to some familiar Christian songs, both old anew! You can also get an expansion pack to add more tracks.

Purchase

+ + +

Heaven Quest (Good)
A rare find!

Platforms: PC
Publisher: Top Meadow, 1998

This multi-player board game walks you through some of the major stories of the Bible as you answer trivia questions. There are various difficulty levels to choose from and a special ending for each of the 4 avatars you can choose.

+ + +

Heaven: The Game (Good)
Also known as Journey to Heaven
Purchase on Amazon on the company website
Platforms: PC
Publisher: Genesis Works, 2009

This is a beautiful game that, unfortunately (but understandably), has received a lot of hate. You play Joshua, an astronaut, who is taken to Heaven after your ship malfunctions. There, you solve puzzles as you progress deeper and deeper into the landscape of Heaven. It is a very Biblically based game. The problem is that your guide shows a little too much cleavage. But one could argue that in Heaven, we'll all be pure of mind and able to appreciate the beauty of the female form as God created it. Either way, it's definitely worth playing through if you can get past this one visual issue.

Interactive Bible Series (Poor)
(Screenshots from James and 1 Timothy)

Purchase games in the series

Platforms: PC
Publisher: GraceWorks Interactive, 2005-2010

I want to like these games. I just can't. They're exploration/action games that move too slow and really have very little to do with the books of the Bible they're representing.

Gameplay video of Interactive Parables

+ + +

JamBand (Excellent)
Purchase
Platforms: PC
Publisher: Cloud 9 Games, 2009

With this "Rock Band" style game, you can have two instruments and two singers playing at a time. You can also play solo or versus mode, and there's a good variety of 40 popular songs to play. The only downside is that this game never had any expansion packs.

+ + +

Jesus Christ RPG (Good, DLC Review)
Free to play, with DLCs to purchase

Platform: PC
Publisher: Wholetone Games, 2013

Play a variety of characters as you walk through the life of Christ, battling demons and Pharisees. It's a little strange to have Jesus "leveling up" to learn new miracles, but I understand doing it for the sake of the game. I also appreciate all the humor in the game.

+ + +

Keys of the Kingdom (Good)
Purchase

Platform: PC
Publisher: Inspired Games, 2011

This is a fun one for those who like movement puzzles. You solve the puzzle by blowing up blocks and moving the key to the lock. Sounds simple, but it does make you think. It also displays a new Bible verse every time you defeat a puzzle. The verses are the real Keys of the Kingdom.

+ + +

King Solomon's Trivia Challenge 1 and 2, Solomon Says: Anything Goes (Good)
Purchase

Purchase
Platform: PC, Mac
Publisher: Cloud 9/Left Behind Games, 2005, 2011, 2012

Play against the computer or against other players in this game show trivia competition. Solomon is your host, and you can set the difficulty to an appropriate level. Solomon Says is the original game, with the King Solomon's Trivia Challenge games being the editions that Left Behind Games published after they purchased Cloud 9.

+ + +

King Solomon's Word Challenge (Excellent)
Platform: PC
Publisher: Planet 316, 2014

This is a cool 3-in-1 game, with Word Twist, Word Find, and Sling Words. In all three game modes, you're filling in the missing words of a Bible verse, which adds a lot of value to the game. As you complete the levels, you earn resources to build the Temple and can actually see your workers making progress on a fairly detailed animated rendition, which is a nice touch.

+ + +

Kings of Israel (Excellent)
Purchase

Platform: PC, Mac
Publisher: Funhill Games, 2015

Play as the prophets trying to rid Israel of idolatry before the nation is overthrown by the Assyrians! This is a fun game that will get you into and thinking about the time of the kings and prophets in Israel's history. There's also a lot of variety and strategy involved, making it a very solid game. If you like the game, check out the original board game version.

+ + +

Left Behind Series (GoodReview)
Purchase Eternal Forces or Tribulation Forces

Purchase Rise of the Antichrist or World at War

Platform: PC
Publisher: Inspired Media Entertainment and LB Games, 2006-2011

These are cool strategy games that use spiritual weapons as you fight against the Anti-Christ and his forces. You run missions and establish safehouses for the underground church. The graphics are well done, and there's potential for a lot of repeat gameplay. You can also play online with other players.

The second game, Tribulation Forces, is more of an update and expansion of Eternal Forces. Rise of the Antichrist and World at War are true sequels.

+ + +

Light Rangers: Mending the Maniac Madness (Excellent)
Purchase

Platform: PC, Mac
Publisher: Digital Praise, 2005

The Light Rangers receive their mission from their mastermind Sunday School teacher and need to save the children of Angeltown from various sinful attitudes caused by the Maniac Brainiac. It's a great game with a good story, fun animation, and plenty of platforming action. There's also just the right amount of Christian teaching. As a bonus, you can play a Christian trivia game.

+ + +

Noah's Ark: Dash N' Splash (Poor, Review)
Purchase on AndroidiOS, and the Microsoft Store

Platform: PC, Android, iOS
Publisher: JustinTime Studios, 2019

This 3D game shows good effort but needs a little more work. You play an intrepid Noah, getting ready for the Flood. You’ll meet his family as well as others in the world as you gather materials, solve puzzles, and explore the landscape.

+ + +

NIMCOR3 (PoorReview)
Purchase

Platform: PC
Publisher: Erik Pineda, 2018

This is an RPG Maker game that would be good for the hardcore Christian audience with a few gameplay tweaks.

+ + +

Nacah (Poor) and Isles of Derek (Fair)
Purchase
Purchase

Platform: PC
Publisher: Bible Games Company, 2001 and 2003

This is an exploratory puzzle game that doesn't quite hit the mark when it comes to gameplay, though the second game is notably better than the first.

Ominous Horizons: A Paladin's Calling (ExcellentReview)
Purchase

Platform: PC
Publisher: N'Lightning Software, 2001

This first-person medieval shooter RPG is simply fantastic. Granted, it's a few years old now so the graphics are a little simple, but it's still fun. You're battling demons and Satan's horde to recover pages of Scripture so that it can be printed for the first time.

+ + +

The Pilgrim's Progress (GoodReview)
Purchase

Platform: PC
Publisher: Scott Cawthorn, 2011

This is a fun game with simple but clean graphics telling the classic Paul Bunyan allegory in an RPG style. It's a good one for engaging action and your spiritual mind at the same time.

Praise Champion and Praise Champion 2 (Excellent)
Previously released as Heavenly Harmony
Purchase
Purchase

Platform: PC
Publisher: Cloud 9/Left Behind Games, 2011, 2012

If you enjoy singing, you'll enjoy these games. With over 40 songs each and the ability to play with up to 4 people, it should provide a lot of fun for a long time. Each game comes with a microphone and includes a variety of songs. There are also mini-games to help you hone your vocal skills, and you can unlock outfits for your avatar to wear and different venues to sing at.

Redemption: Victory at Hebron (Excellent)
Purchase

Platform: PC
Publisher: Brethren Entertainment, 2003

This trading card video game was a real find for me! With a story and 3D exploration to go with it, this is the perfect game for anyone who enjoys card battling. The game still looks and runs great today.

+ + +

Rionon: The Search for the Stone Statue (Excellent)
Purchase

Platform: PC
Publisher: Disintegration Games, 2014

No, it's not the most technologically advanced game, but the story is very intriguing. You start out on the side of the pagans, looking for your country's stone statue that the Christians supposedly stole. Maybe if you could recover the statue, life in Rionon will turn prosperous again? The gameplay is great, and the whole package is a lot of fun, despite the slightly outdated graphics and development shortcuts.

+ + +

Saints of Virtue (Fair)
Platform: PC
Publisher: Cactus Game Design, 1999

Enter the mind and heart of a young man battling the temptations of the world! Unfortunately, while this game is built on a neat concept, the gameplay is somewhat lacking. The enemies don't present much of a challenge, and the game is fairly short. Still, it's worth playing through once if you're looking for a clean first-person shooter. Your weapon is the Sword of the Spirit, which shoots energy bolts.

+ + +

Super 3D Noah's Ark (GoodReview)
Purchase on Amazon or Steam

Platform: DOS, PC, Super Nintendo
Publisher: Wisdom Tree, 1994

This is a first-person shooter, but you're using food to put irate animals back to sleep as they ride the waves on Noah's Ark.

+ + +

Scripture Solitaire (Excellent)

Platform: PC
Publisher: GraceWorks Interactive, 2003

This is an interesting game in which you have to match parts of the verses instead of values on the cards. There are also seven modes of solitaire to explore, so the game doesn't get boring. Memorize Scripture and play a challenging game at the same time!

+ + +

Super Bible Trivia (Excellent)
Purchase

Platform: PC
Publisher: Planet 316, 2014

There are a lot of Christian trivia games, but this one stands out for its mini-games. Like some of the other trivia games above, this one uses a game show theme that you can play solo or versus other players. The mini-games are fun because they include things like Timeline, Who Am I?, and Name that Book, which I found particularly enjoyable.

+ + +

Timothy and Titus (Excellent)
Purchase

Platform: PC
Publisher: White Knight Games, 2006

This is a great (but short) action game in which you control Timothy and Titus seeking to recover Pauls stolen letters. Now, who would want Paul's letters to be lost? That's right, there are enemies to fight in this game, but it's a fairly non-violent game with the human enemies converting to Christianity when you defeat them.

+ + +

That Dragon, Cancer (Excellent)
Purchase on SteamAndroid, or iOS
Platform: PC, Mac, Android, iOS
Publisher: Numinous Games, 2016

While not really a game, this interactive experience will encourage you as you walk through the life of Joel's parents, hearing real conversations that they had during the course of their young son's illness and eventual death.

+ + +

To Light: Ex Umbra (ExcellentReview)
Purchase

Platforms: PC, Mac
Publisher: Branch Games, 2019

This is a well-written, story-driven RPG Maker game with the option to either limit the battle mode or enjoy the strategy of combat.

+ + +

Through the Shadows: The Darkness Revealed (Good)
Platforms: PC
Publisher: True Light Games, 2014

This is a mysterious, immersive, first-person puzzler/visual novel that finds you all alone in a world seeking to find the truth. This is the first of what was to be a series of games that didn't continue, so, as the creator described it, you can think of it as the first novel in a series. It's still worth playing, but don't expect a completely tidy ending.

+ + +

The Tomb of Moses (Good)
Platform: PC
Publisher: Vidia Entertainment, 2009

This is a puzzle game with still-decent 3D graphics. Archaeologist Professor Fog has gone missing, and it's your job to go find him. Though not quite true to the Biblical understanding of where Moses is buried, the game still gives valuable information about the Exodus story and the man whom God used to accomplish it.

+ + +

Visions Alpha (FairReview)
Purchase

Platform: PC
Publisher: Tiny Zoo, 2012

This game is all about immersion and daily life in the 2nd century.

+ + +

VeggieTales Dance, Dance, Dance (Excellent)
Purchase

Platforms: PC, Mac
Publisher: Digital Praise, 2006

Dance to all your favorite VeggieTales songs! This game comes with its own dance pad and a CD to play on any computer.

+ + +

The War in Heaven (Fair)
Platform: PC
Publisher: ValuSoft, 1999

This is a fun game to play if you're just looking to slash some enemies. You will pick up pieces of the armor of God to buff you, and you get a little teaching when you do, along with the story setup at the beginning of each level. But mostly, it's you hacking your way through the maps. The gameplay isn't particularly challenging, though, so there's not much replay value. The graphics are still decent considering the time it was released.

One interesting facet of this game is that you can play from a Fallen Angel's perspective, which can raise some questions about what their motives are and were.
